Duffield CC to introduce 5th XI in 2024

Following the club’s Annual General Meeting on the 25th January, Duffield CC can now formally announce the introduction of a fifth senior team from the start of the 2024 season.

In entering a fifth eleven, Duffield are set to become just the third club in the county to have five senior teams, alongside Denby and Ockbrook & Borrowash.

For the second time in six years a new team has been entered by Duffield, following the 4th XI’s introduction in 2018, highlighting the exponential growth of the club.

The 5ths will play their home games at St. Peter’s Park in Little Eaton, where they will make their Derbyshire County Cricket League on Saturday 20th April when they face Stainsby Hall.

Club Chairman John Fearnehough said: “The creation of a fifth team for the first time in the club’s 146-year history is exciting.

“It means we have a lot of boys and girls coming through our junior programmes wanting to play senior cricket, but it also means we get to bring regular cricket back to Little Eaton park.

“Little Eaton has a fantastic cricket history and we’re grateful to the parish council for allowing Duffield CC to use the ground,” he continued.

“We hope it can be a catalyst to help cricket return to Little Eaton on a full-time basis.”

Duffield will be entered into Division 10 East, where they will face fellow fifth teams from Denby and Ockbrook & Borrowash, as well as sides from Elvaston, Nutbrook and Swarkestone.

Details of a 5th XI captain will be announced in due course.
